red honeysuckle

15 Apr

The red honeysuckle is a beautiful trellis plant, blooming profusely in mid-spring (usually May but early this year like everything else). It’s better behaved that many honeysuckles. Although it will send out runners if left to touch the ground, it doesn’t send up volunteers all over the place like some of the white varieties. It will continue to send out flowers all the way up to frost. The hummingbirds love it; I usually find a hummingbird nest when I trim it back in summer.
