purple azalea

2 May

azalea 003This is an “evergreen” variety.  The leaves stay on, becoming a darker green in winter.  In Spring, new leaves push the old ones off the plant.

Your garden must be amazing at this time of year 🙂

It really is. It isn’t big or particularly well manicured, but every day brings something new popping open. Along about late July or early August when I’m beginning to get burned out on the whole gardening thing, I go back to these pictures and remember what drives me outside at the first sign of Spring.
