red twig dogwood

new camera 046A pair of these shrubs lives on either side of the garage and, as you can see, have grown so large that it’s getting hard to get the car in.  They haven’t bloomed for several years, and there aren’t too many blooms now, but I thought I’d take the opportunity to get a picture before I cut them back.new camera 047

They used to be in the back yard, where they bloomed more profusely and the stems turned yellow in winter.  Since they’ve been moved here the stems have turned red.  Whether that’s due to location or the milder winters we’ve been having I can’t say.  Whatever the reason, the bare red stems brighten up the front garden in winter — if only I can manage to contain their growth.

I checked out your blog and wondered if you know the name of the spider you showed on your recent post? I had one of those in my garden and was told it was a banana spider – very poisonous – but can’t find any info on it.
